I remember feeling irritated and bothered that I could feel these "jiggles" from them "love handles" as I walked up the stairs. I remember thinking… "hmmm - something's not right." But I was too busy to really think about it too much back then, so this proceeded for another year or so. Despite getting pimply (yikes! Something I thought only happened in teens - I thought I was over that?!), having to buy new clothes because my previous ones no longer fit, and knowingly eating unhealthy food, I continued this lifestyle. I was TOO BUSY! Until…

I started to feel a strrrong thumping of what seemed like my heart pounding against my chest while I was at work. "Oh shit! Am I having a heart attack?!" I thought - "what's wrong with me? I was too young… I didn't have a family history of a heart attack, and I wasn't having any classic heart attack symptoms." I diagnosed myself as NOT having a heart attack - intuition, I guess. I still didn't know what it was but then got paranoid and started to assess myself. I felt my pulse - it was irregular. I pulled out my stethoscope to listen to my heart - I don't remember what I heard. But I decided that I, a nurse, was headed RIGHT where my patients were! Thaaat - was UN---acceptable!

After kicking my fast food habit to the curb, I was surprised to see how stubborn the weight was, despite my efforts to change my diet by preparing homemade meals and going to the gym. My waistline was not shrinking and my love jiggles were still there. My scrubs were tight. I remember thinking - "hmmm, is this how it is when we're older and start working? My Mom complained about her waistline, my co-workers complained and joked about their being overweight… is this normal? How could this be... I was NORMAL just last year?" Somehow, I couldn't accept that this was normal with age. 

After finally taking a well overdue vacation (it had been longer than a year). I decided, while being in California for my vacation, that my life in Vegas felt waaay overwhelming with the stressful job and other family and relationship things going on - I needed a change. Within a month of making that decision, I was back in California as a travel nurse and haven't looked back since.

It's interesting, it wasn't the diet nor the exercise that propelled me to literally shed the weight quickly - it was actually my courage to honor the desire I had for change… my job was über stressful, I was OVER living in the dry desert, and I wanted to be back where I belong. Since then, I have experienced some ups and downs in weight - this time, yes, related to both diet and exercise. I have since received a certificate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) in health coaching to learn about diet and lifestyle. My diet has been pretty consistent since then and my weight has not fluctuated much (except for when I got pregs). I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight within 5 months post-delivery!

And that's because I had already been working on diet and lifestyle change for 5 years! By the time I had the baby, my eating habits were what I think of as top-notch. I do, however, try to pick out healthier options, I DO read labels, and I sparingly bring junk food into the house where I have easy access. Now, I don't have to think too much about what foods to eat or how I need to live my life in order for my for my body to be happy. I have it figured out. Maintaining my weight and overall health is now a no-brainer.

The truth is - carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, are ALL considered to be macronutrients, which means that our body needs these nutrients in larger amounts than any other nutrient in the body. Certain diets can be fantastic for a short period of time, but generally not all of these diets are meant for you to stay on them long-term. 
  3. Eating more of ONE particular food will help you lose weight.

P.S. Still undecided? Here are some frequently asked questions that came from clients before enrolling:

FAQ #1: How does scheduling work?

Answer: My coaching days are dedicated to Wednesdays. You will choose a time that suits both our schedules, and that will become the time we have our sessions every Wednesday.

 FAQ #2: I can’t do Wednesday, can I change it for another day?

Answer: Because I am still working at the hospital and raising a toddler, my days stand AS-IS for now. There are times that we can skip a week if for some reason you are unable to make it, however, your program must be fulfilled within a certain time-frame once we start. This is usually about 1 month after the expected completion date of the program.

 FAQ#3: If I can’t make a session, how does that work?

Answer: If you are unable to make a session, we will pick up where we left off the following week, meeting at our normal session times. We will go over our session schedule prior to our first session so that you have the opportunity to go over your calendar and plan. I DO require at least a 24hour advanced courtesy notice for your absence. Again, your program is expected to complete and be fulfilled 1 month after your scheduled completion date, which will be found in the contract.
